The B.A.R Key House

In Extension, today we have had a little look at the 20 thinkers keys. We have only realy researched two of the keys and this morning, we had a look at the B.A.R key.
B stands for Bigger
A stands for Add
R stands for Replace.
After we drew our original image, we rotated around the room looking at other people's images and editing them using the B.A.R key. So the second image was done by some of my classmates, not me. I hope you like it! :-)

This is my original image of my house.

This is my house after it was adjusted by the B.A.R key.

Dodgeball Writing

“Good morning Class 4!” Ms Tito was our teacher for the morning block and she looked like she had some news, “Has your teacher put you into the dodgeball tournament?” We looked at each other, puzzled, “No, is there a dodgeball tournament?” Ms Tito leaned on the table, looking like she was ready to do something exciting, “Class 3 is putting on a dodgeball tournament for all the Team 5 classes and we would love for you to join, all you need to do is ask your teacher to email me, saying that you would like to compete.” We all knew that Ms Squires would say yes, so we started to get really excited about not only playing, but playing against the other classes since we haven’t really done anything with them the whole year.

Ms Squires had said yes and we were about to have our first practise with Ms Tito, even though everyone knew how to play, we weren’t very good competition wise. But after a few good practises, we were ready to play. Our first game was going to be against Class 5 on Friday , they were supposed to be easy because they hadn’t had very many practises but as we approached the hall, we saw that they had some good sports people in their class.

Luckily, we won that game, it was challenging but really fun and we couldn’t wait for the next one. The next Tuesday, we had another practise and we went over what we did that was wrong and what could improve on so we had a great practise with lots of learning and new skills. Our second games was against Class 3 who were the ones who were running the tournament so they had to be better than us. Sadly we didn’t win that game, but it was really fun and we had enough time to play an extra 2 games just for fun.

The first round will end once we play Class 2 and then it will be winners against winners and losers against losers to get down to the cup and the grand final. I really enjoy playing dodgeball every Friday, it tops off my week at school in a great way. Hopefully we will at least get into final and maybe win!

Maths DLO Week 6

This is my Maths DLO for one of the questions from our Weekly Questions. It shows how to solve a question using 3 different strategies.

Weekly Quiz Article - Irene Van Dyk

Irene Van Dyk is a former Netballer who was born in South Africa but grew up and lives in New Zealand. She is one of the most well-known netball players in the world and in 2003 she was nominated Sports Woman Of The Year. She has just recently resigned from playing for the New Zealand team, Silver Ferns.

The 41 year old has one child, Bianca Van Dyk and is married to Christie Van Dyk and they live in Wellington, New Zealand. When she first started playing for the Silver Ferns, there was a bit of talk about her because at the time, it wasn't allowed for people from other countries to play for New Zealand. That got cleared up after she became a New Zealand Citizen in 2005 and she has been playing ever since.

Cold Day Walking to School

During this week we were given a scenario and we had to write a first paragraph to the story. The scenario was
You have to walk to school, you are late, you haven't had breakfast and it is freezing outside.
We had to write it then check the check-list and re-write the paragraph.

Paragraph 1
I left the house freezing cold, walking to school was supposed to be fun but the wind was brisk and my stomach was starting to rumble. I had tried to get a ride to school but Mum clearly said, “The car is frozen, covered in ice you will have to walk unless you can get the ice off!” By the time I had finished trying to get the ice off the car, I was late to school and Mum wasn't ready so I really had no choice but to walk.

Paragraph 1 Re-written I left the house freezing cold, the wind was brisk and my stomach was starting to rumble. I had tried to get a ride to school but Mum clearly said, “The car is frozen, covered in ice you will have to walk unless you can get the ice off!” By the time I had finished getting the ice off the car, I was late to school and Mum wasn't ready so I really had no choice but to walk.

Bagpipes

This is a short presentation about how bagpipes work and what the things that make bagpipes are called. I did this for a reading activity and I learnt about bagpipes by reading a couple of articles about them.
